We Are Not Just Toy Boats.

The Race Begins!

So my race began in my teenage years, it was not always easy thats for sure! But I was able to find comfort and strength in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Throughout my high school years I has Seminary, which was a great thing for me! It gave me a chance  to get away from the crazy world of high school for 90 minutes every other day. I am thankful for the support and guidance I was able to receive from Seminary!

"No one has described the teenage years as being easy. They are often years of insecurity, of feeling as though you just don’t measure up, of trying to find your place with your peers, of trying to fit in. This is a time when you are becoming more independent—and perhaps desire more freedom than your parents are willing to give you right now. They are also prime years when Satan will tempt you and will do his utmost to entice you from the path which will lead you back to that heavenly home from which you came and back to your loved ones there and back to your Heavenly Father.
The world around you is not equipped to provide the help you need to make it through this often-treacherous journey. So many in our society today seem to have slipped from the moorings of safety and drifted from the harbor of peace. …
Is there a way to safety? Is there an escape from threatened destruction? The answer is a resounding yes! I counsel you to look to the lighthouse of the Lord. … It calls, “This way to safety. This way to home.” It sends forth signals of light easily seen and never failing. If followed, those signals will guide you back to your heavenly home. …
Besides attending your Sunday meetings and your weeknight activities, when you have the chance to be involved in seminary… , take advantage of that opportunity"
   -  President Thomas S. Monson

So just a few months ago in June, I left my teenage years behind. It was a little weird leaving the comfort of still being a "child", Now it is the real deal. President Monson is right, those past 7 years being a teenager were never easy! Everyday I was faced with new challenges. Striving to always make the right choices, But no matter how hard I tried, Satan would always find a way to slip in to disturb the water... That is why I am so very thankful for the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It was my Anchor and still is! it will always be there for me. I can testify of the love that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have for each and every one of us!

The Race later in life as well!

The "Race of Life" continues on through out our life! No matter how old we get.. haha! We have to always strive to follow Christ's example that He has set for us. We have been given help in our lives through Prayer, Scriptures, and the Commandments. They were set to help us live our life to keep us safe!

"When I reflect on the race of life, I remember another type of race, even from childhood days. My friends and I would take pocketknives in hand and, from the soft wood of a willow tree, fashion small toy boats. With a triangular-shaped cotton sail in place, each would launch his crude craft in the race down the relatively turbulent waters of Utah’s Provo River. We would run along the river’s bank and watch the tiny vessels sometimes bobbing violently in the swift current and at other times sailing serenely as the water deepened.
During a particular race we noted that one boat led all the rest toward the appointed finish line. Suddenly, the current carried it too close to a large whirlpool, and the boat heaved to its side and capsized. Around and around it was carried, unable to make its way back into the main current. At last it came to an uneasy rest amid the flotsam and jetsam that surrounded it, held fast by the tentacles of the grasping green moss.
The toy boats of childhood had no keel for stability, no rudder to provide direction, and no source of power. Inevitably, their destination was downstream—the path of least resistance.
Unlike toy boats, we have been provided divine attributes to guide our journey. We enter mortality not to float with the moving currents of life but with the power to think, to reason, and to achieve.
Our Heavenly Father did not launch us on our eternal voyage without providing the means whereby we could receive from Him guidance to ensure our safe return. I speak of prayer. I speak too of the whisperings from that still, small voice; and I do not overlook the holy scriptures, which contain the word of the Lord and the words of the prophets—provided to us to help us successfully cross the finish line."
      -      President Thomas S. Monson

I testify of what President Thomas S. Monson has said, it is true. Our loving Father in Heaven would not have sent us here with out a plan for us to return to Him and His Son, and I know that it is through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ has set up His Gospel that we may not fail. No matter how low we may feel, if our foundation is built upon Christ we can always rebuild ourselves stronger! All we have to do is follorw the commandments that we have been given and the Lord will bless us.

Just like it says here in Alma 37:46, the way has been prepared for us!

46 O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.

Read from the scriptures and they will guide you in your life, they are our own personal "owner's manuals" that have been given to us from God. I am so very thankful for the Bible and the Book of Mormon, both witnessing of Christ and His glory!

Discipleship

"Wherever you now find yourself on the road of discipleship, you are on the right road, the road toward eternal life. Together we can lift and strengthen one another in the great and important days ahead. Whatever the difficulties confronting us, the weaknesses confining us, or the impossibilities surrounding us, let us have faith in the Son of God, who declared, 'All things are possible to him that believeth.'"

"I testify that as you love Him, trust Him, believe Him, and follow Him, you will feel His love and approval. As you ask, 'What thinks Christ of me?' you will know that you are His disciple; you are His friend. By His grace He will do for you what you cannot do for yourself."

"President Monson has described our day as moving away ‘from that which is spiritual … [with] the winds of change [swirling] around us and the moral fiber of society [continuing] to disintegrate before our very eyes.’ It is a time of growing disbelief and disregard for Christ and His teachings. In this turbulent environment, we rejoice in being disciples of Jesus Christ. We see the Lord’s hand all around us. Our destination is beautifully set before us. ‘This is life eternal,’ Jesus prayed, ‘that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.’ Being a disciple in these days of destiny will be a badge of honor throughout the eternities."

—Elder Neil L. Andersen

The way has been prepared for us! We may have struggles and trials come our way in life, but through Christ and His Gospel, we can be comforted and we can know that there is a Plan of Happiness for each and every one of us. Our Heavenly Father does love us, His son Jesus Christ also loves us more than we can comprehend. We must go forth with faith! All things come to pass!
